The RCS Central School District and Music Department are proud to announce that Junior Alivia Ortiz has been selected to be a member of the 2023 NAfME (National Association for Music Education) All-Eastern Division Conference, more specifically as part of the Treble Choir! This announcement came just before Ms. Ortiz headed to Rochester in early December, where she participated in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Conference All-State Festival as part of the Mixed Chorus, another impressive accomplishment on her resume.
Alivia will return to Rochester to, once again, perform in the world-renowned Eastman Theater from April 13 through 16 for the All-Eastern Conference. “Alivia could not be more deserving of this honor,” said RCS High School Choral Director and K-12 Art and Music Curriculum Content Specialist, Michelle McLoughlin. “She is extraordinarily musically talented, but it is her countless hours of hard work and dedication throughout the years that have provided her with this amazing opportunity. We are incredibly proud of her!”
Alivia is a very active member of our RCS Community and the first-ever RCS student to be selected for this prestigious conference. She was chosen as one of the top vocalists from what NAfME considers the Eastern Division - Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, the District of Columbia, and a Department of Defense School in Europe. The process for acceptance is highly competitive, and only students who were selected for their state’s All-State Festival are eligible to apply. Alivia’s participation in the All-State and All-Eastern Festivals will also allow her to apply for NAfME’s All-National Festival this spring!
Huge congratulations to Alivia, her family, Ms. McLoughlin, and all of Alivia’s Music Teachers through her years here at RCS. This is an absolute honor to receive this recognition, and we are so pleased to have her representing RCS. Best of luck!!
