The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District would like to welcome Mr. Ryan Funck as our new RCS High School Principal. Mr. Funck will be taking the current High School Principal Dr. Lisa Patierne's position. Dr. Patierne’s last day will be Friday, October 28, before she heads off into retirement.
To learn more about Mr. Funck, his experience in the education field, and his excitement for the year ahead, read the FAQ below!
Can you tell RCS a little bit about yourself?
My name is Ryan Funck, and I have three daughters: Harper, 8; Madelyn, 6 and Emerson, 4. I have been the Middle & High School Principal at Hunter-Tannersville for the last four years. Prior to being an administrator, I was a math and business teacher. I coached Varsity Baseball and Varsity Girls Basketball for 8 years before becoming the Principal. In my free time, I enjoy watching my kids play sports and ride horses, as well as riding my bike, golfing, and being as active as I can.
What motivates you?
I am motivated by challenges. I like to set goals (short-term and long-term) and then look for ways to accomplish those goals. It is incredibly important and rewarding.
What inspired you to work in the education field?
My dad really inspired me to work in education. He was my Math teacher in high school and my baseball coach. He really set the table for my brother and me to both get into the education field.
What brings you the most joy as a Leader?
Being able to watch staff members impact the growth of students is the most enjoyable part of being a leader. Some don’t realize the amount of impact a single person can have on a student both inside and outside the classroom.
My drive to be a school leader comes from wanting to impact the educational experience for all students as well as learn from and help fellow educators do the same.
What makes a great Principal?
A great Principal is one who immerses themselves in the school community and culture. I want to fit into the community and add to it! A great Principal is visible, approachable, and open to new ideas!
What are some of your goals within your new position?
First and foremost, I would like to build relationships with stakeholders. Relationships are built on trust and without trust, it won’t matter what visions I may have.
It is important to me to get to know the people inside and outside the school, learn about the academic goals already in place, and see how I can add to those goals. I think once those relationships start to be built, we as a school community can talk about goals we have together and start to make a plan to attain those goals.
How can the families, students, or community members contact you?
I can be contacted at my email, rfunck@rcscsd.org. I can also be contacted by calling the High School at (518) 756-5200 ext. 2003 starting on Monday, October 24.
What fun activities are you looking forward to this school year?
I am very interested in extracurriculars and the part they play in the growth of students. I look forward to attending sporting events, musicals, concerts, class and club activities, and much more!
Getting to know new people and the RCS community is also something I am very excited about!
What advice do you have for our students?
My advice for students would be to be yourself and strive to be great in what they are interested in. Also, advocate for classes, clubs, or activities you would like to see done at RCS.
What would you like to share with our High School families?
I would like families to know who I am as a person. I look forward to hosting some informal meet-and-greet type nights where I can welcome parents in for a cup of coffee and to chat. I am easy to get in touch with and will do my best to return communication as soon as I possibly can.
I am a collaborative leader who takes very seriously the thoughts and opinions of faculty, staff, parents, students, and community members. I can’t wait to get started!
