Dear Families,

We have begun our mid-term assessments!  These exams are crucial for teachers to know where students are academically and what skills or standards they have either mastered or have not yet achieved.  This helps teachers in planning their instruction as they prepare students for Regents Exams in June, which as far as we know are still being held, or as they prepare them to meet the standards and learning objectives for the class.

With some of our students experiencing a disruption in learning due to COVID (ie. quarantine, teacher absences, etc.), teachers will be mindful of the potential gaps in instruction for the previously mentioned reasons and that the questions students will be seeing on their exams should have been covered in class OR will give teachers an idea of what they need to cover.

Despite the circumstances, we have been under, with quarantining and staff shortages, teachers have been providing assignments via Google Classroom and have been meeting with various students virtually to “check-in.”  If students stayed up on the work that was posted on Google Classroom or checked in with teachers, they should feel confident in their performance.

Additionally, teachers have control over what material will be in the midterms, so if they feel they have not covered the material, they will definitely take that into account as they grade the exams.

If you have any questions regarding the midterms, your child’s grades, or their academic progress, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly.  If for any reason you cannot connect with your child’s teacher, please reach out to me at (518) 756-5200 x2000.

Warm Regards,

Dr. Lisa Patierne
