Governor Hochul indicated at an early afternoon press conference today that the statewide indoor mask mandate for business will be repealed effective tomorrow, February 10. However, the mask mandate for schools will remain in effect.
At this time, all staff, students, and school visitors are required to wear a mask or face covering while in our schools. There is no change to the health and safety protocols we have been following in recent months as it relates to masks.
We do expect there to be some changes on the horizon. The Governor indicated that following the February school recess period, the state will evaluate metrics such as: (1) cases per 100,000; (2) percent positivity; (3) hospital admissions; (4) pediatric hospitalizations; (5) vaccinations; and (6) global trends, to determine next steps regarding universal masking in schools.
