On Wednesday, June 23, Kylie McGuiness, a student at A.W. Becker Elementary School, participated in a pizza party thrown in her honor for being selected as the winning candidate for the Albany County reusable bag art contest. McGuiness, a third grade student, created the winning design that was selected from over hundreds of submissions. Her design will be added to reusable bags utilized by Albany County for distribution to county residents and community partners.
In addition to being selected for her winning design, Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy hosted a pizza party for Ms. McGuiness and her classmates to officially introduce her winning submission. Albany County Executive McCoy was joined by Deputy County Executive Mr. Daniel C. Lynch, Town of Coeymans Supervisor George McHugh and Albany County Legislator, 36th District - Matt Miller.
The art contest allowed participating elementary students in grades three through five to design and create a special art piece to be used on a reusable bag to represent the county-wide effort to eliminate the community use of plastic bags, while protecting the environment. Students in grades three through five from schools throughout the county were invited to submit their own design illustrations with corresponding slogans that raise awareness for this issue.
