Good Afternoon RCS Families,
Due to the emergency day (snow day) availability this year, Friday, May 28, 2021, has been declared as a non-attendance day for all Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District students. All students in grades UPK-12 will not have school on Friday, May 28.
End of Year Events - May 25, 2021
We are writing to you to let you know that we are planning our culminating events such as moving up ceremonies, prom and graduation. While we are eager to provide these milestone activities that mean so much to our students and families, we are also committed to holding these events in a safe manner in accordance with the state’s public health guidelines. We will not jeopardize our students’ or the community’s health.
These guidelines on school events continue to significantly limit in-person attendance for events both inside and outside. Schools continue to be held to a higher standard than other public/private venues and restaurants. As such, we have adapted many of our usual end-of-year events to celebrate our students to the fullest extent, include our families when possible, and continue to uphold the strict safety standards as set forth by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and other agencies.
Anytime that a school goes over the maximum number all participants are required to demonstrate that they have either been vaccinated or have been tested prior to the event. We are therefore keeping mostl end-of-year celebrations, except for graduation, under the maximum capacity for school events as set forth in the most recent DOH public gathering guidance.
We would like to share some of the bigger celebration landmarks with you now. Please note, each of the large-scale events say “tentative plans” because we have to complete some final contractual agreements with the venues. We are, however, 99% set with each of these venues and we wanted to share these plans with you ASAP.
Here is a link to the calendar that shows the entire month of June and includes the events listed below, with flyers for some. All of the events below will have more information sent as the dates approach:
Kindergarten Moving Up Day = End of June. This will occur in classrooms with a celebration of each child. Although not open to visitors, a slideshow or student-centered project will be shared with families after the celebration.
5th Grade Moving Up Day = Wednesday, June 23. This will occur throughout the morning, while students are in attendance at school. Families will be able to do a “drive-by” viewing, by appointment, of their child’s recognition of promotion to sixth grade.
8th Grade Moving Up Day = Tuesday, June 22. This will occur at the Jericho Drive-In with the gates opening at 7:30 PM. The ceremony is set to start at 8:45 PM with a movie starting immediately after.
Senior Prom = Saturday, June 5, 2021. Event to be held at Martel’s in Albany, NY. Seating is limited and tickets are on sale now at the high school.
Senior Night = Tuesday, June 9, 2021. A night for our seniors to come together at the Jericho Drive In and be treated to some food and a movie.
High School Graduation = Saturday, June 26. This will occur at the Times Union Center at 4:00 PM. The doors will open at 2:30 PM. Families will be able to bring eight people per graduate. Tickets will be required and will be available (for free) through Ticketmaster. We will be surpassing the limit for indoor attendance at an event and, as such please note: Current state guidelines require EVERY participant and attendee to demonstrate one of three things prior to entry: A negative COVID-19 test, vaccination, or recovery from COVID-19. Here is an important letter to senior families about what will be required in order to attend graduation.
We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our students with you.
