On April 22, Kylie McGuiness, a student at A.W. Becker Elementary School, was notified during Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy’s daily press conference that she was the winning candidate for the Albany County reusable bag art contest. McGuiness, a third grade student, created the winning design that was selected from over hundreds of submissions. Her design will be added to reusable bags utilized by Albany County for distribution to county residents and community partners.
“We are incredibly proud of Ms. McGuiness receiving this important recognition and the work that she put into her art design for this special contest,” said A.W. Becker Elementary Principal Mrs. Neubart. “We would like to thank Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy for allowing district’s throughout our area to utilize their creativity for a special cause. As a district, were are excited to see Ms. McGuiness’s artwork be utilized in a positive, community-based environmental initiative.”
In addition to being selected for her winning design, Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy has invited Ms. McGuiness to appear during an upcoming press conference to officially introduce her as the winner. A date has yet to be confirmed. The County Executive has also promised a pizza party for her third grade class at a future date this school year.
The art contest allowed participating elementary students in grades three through five to design and create a special art piece to be used on a reusable bag to represent the county-wide effort to eliminate the community use of plastic bags, while protecting the environment. Students in grades three through five from schools throughout the county were invited to submit their own design illustrations with corresponding slogans that raise awareness for this issue.
Congratulations Kylie!!
