On Friday, March 14th, the RCS National Art Honor Society (NAHS) hosted the 2nd annual Youth Art Month (YAM) Summit in the high school library. This year, the event brought together 5th grade Art Clubs from PBC and 5th grade Art and Yearbook Clubs from AWB, along with members of the high school NAHS.
The YAM Summit, a celebration of the visual arts, takes place each year during Youth Art Month. The event featured seven engaging art stations, where 5th grade students rotated through hands-on activities. The stations included two Origami stations, a guided drawing station, a Wheel of Art station, a coloring station, a Zentangle station, and a community mural station.
In a special collaborative effort, the NAHS members designed the community murals based on the District's mascot, the raven! Participants of the summit worked together to paint three murals, one for each participating school. The day was a tremendous success, with students actively creating and interacting while taking home a variety of artwork and lasting memories.
High school students did an outstanding job mentoring their younger peers, fostering a spirit of teamwork and collaboration throughout the event. NAHS is already looking forward to planning next year’s summit and continuing the tradition of celebrating the visual arts.
We are incredibly proud of this student-organized event and all those who made it a success!
