Fifth-grade students at A.W. Becker Elementary have spent the past few weeks learning about careers and the skills needed for success after graduation. The students have explored a variety of career options related to their personal interests, gaining insights that will help them consider potential paths for the future.
The career lessons offered at the elementary school level are designed to help students connect their current schoolwork with future opportunities. These lessons raise age-appropriate awareness of the wide range of career choices available, encouraging students to envision fulfilling and successful futures in the world of work.
On February 12 and 13, students had the opportunity to meet skilled tradespeople and explore careers in construction, electrical work, and engineering, all while engaging in a fun, hands-on activity.
The interactive activity, coordinated by Mr. Trainor and Northeast Construction Trades, allowed students to work with tools and wood to build their very own toolboxes. The 5th-grade team shared their thoughts on the interactive activity: “The kids absolutely loved the hands-on experience of building their own toolboxes, using everything from wood and nails to measuring tapes and screwdrivers. They were fully engaged, challenged, and inspired. We truly appreciate [Mr. Trainor] bringing these professionals into our classrooms and sparking our student’s curiosity about potential career paths!”
As the 5th graders continue to explore a wide range of career possibilities, these hands-on experiences offer valuable insights into the world of work. Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District is proud to support students on their journey toward discovering their passions and shaping their futures!
Through Northeast Construction Trades Coalition A.W. Becker was visited by representatives from LeChase Construction and Caruso Electrical Contracting to lead the hands-on activity.
