Fifth grade students in Ms. Fiore's class at A.W. Becker recently presented biography presentations with a unique twist. The students were assigned to read about an influential person from the Who Was/Who Is biography book series, which covers a wide range of people from the present and the past. With over 250 titles to choose from, each student was able to select a person of interest and read the corresponding novel.
After finishing the book, each student wrote an informative essay about their influential person, including information on their childhood and family background, accomplishments, and interesting facts. The students then created a poster that resembled the cover of the Who Was/Who Is biography book series and decorated it with elements that they learned from their research about their person. The posters had a cut-out space for the student's head, and each student presented their speech in first-person point of view while wearing their poster. Students had an opportunity to answer questions from their classmates about their influential person and receive feedback about their presentation.
The influential people highlighted in the presentations included presidents, scientists, inventors, and sports heroes. You can check out some photos of the presentations here.
