This past Friday, October 7, a group of juniors and seniors from the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District attended the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce Manufacturing Day. The day was organized to highlight to students the importance of these positions within their community and provide them with direct connections to the opportunities that are available.
Hosted by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, RCS and Bethlehem Central students toured both the SABIC and Owens Corning plants, as well as attended discussion panels to learn more about these local businesses directly from the source. Throughout the day, students learn about each company, how they operate, and the wide variety of careers they have to offer. They also discussed the benefits offered, and how to apply, in addition to providing students with the chance to ask pointed questions about a career in manufacturing.
This trip works into the district's goal of employment, enrollment, or enlistment for all students, focusing on the employment opportunities available to our students upon graduation. Both companies have entry-level jobs available for students to apply to that provide students with incredible opportunities for advancement.
“Now, more than ever, it is important that we make our students aware of the careers that are available in their local community, literally right outside their front door,” said High School Assistant Principal Herbert Tedford. “In working with these companies, we have been able to provide our students with the exposure and information necessary for them to make the best decision for their future.”
