During the month of March, students at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School will use their reading skill sets to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of the Capital Region (RMHC-CR). Students are encouraged to gather donations from family and friends in support of the reading they will do during the month of March as part of this community-based project. Donations raised will be used to support the families served by RMHC-CR.
The event kicks off this week as students watch videos each day in class to learn more about the Ronald McDonald House, how the program supports those in need and how it will work for our students. “We are always looking for powerful ways to engage our students with opportunities to learn and grow while driving home the importance of helping our community,” said Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary Curriculum Content Specialist (ELA/SS) and Literacy Specialist Kelly Doggette. “The Read for Ronald McDonald House Charities is the perfect opportunity to support literacy in our students and lift up our community.”
According to its website, Read for RMHC-CR is a reading-based community service program that empowers elementary and middle school students to develop lifelong skills while supporting children and families served by RMHC of the Capital Region.
