Operation Gratitude is a nationwide organization that provides communities with opportunities to honor our military, veterans, and first responders through volunteer activities. Each year they sponsor a Halloween Candy Give Back Program, and this year our Middle School joined in on the fun! The program encourages local communities to gather their excess Halloween candy so it can then be distributed to our military, veterans, and first responders as a way to show our gratitude for those who serve our nation.
The Middle School Social Studies Curriculum Content Specialist, Ms. Sawyer, worked with the Middle School Parent Teacher Student Organization to encourage the whole school to participate this year. They ended up with a total of 250 pounds of candy! The collection of candy was then shared with the Albany County EMS, the Air National Guard Base in Scotia, NY, and the US Army Reserve base in Saugerties, NY.
The four classrooms that collected the most candy won a donut party sponsored by the MS PTSO. The top-earning classes were the 1st-period classes of Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Charafeddine, and Mrs. Latter, with the big winners being Mr. Wamsley 7/8 grade Band!
Great job, and thank you to all of those who participated! It was a marvelous way to show gratitude for those who work hard for our nation!!
