After spending two years at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School, RCS Senior Jordan Flach knows where he’ll be headed and with the critical hands-on experience to guide him. Flach, a Welding and Metal Fabrications student, plans to join the family business – Flach Industries – upon his graduation in June.
“I chose this program so I could get better at welding and help my father more with his business,” he said. “It has helped me learn and understand different types of welding and how to use them in the field.”
Flach is one of 58 students in the welding program run by Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School programs on the Albany and Mohonasen campuses during the 2020-21 school year. Students learn American Welding Society standards and earn certifications that prepare them for a career in the welding industry.
“If you like building stuff with metal, this is the class for you,” Flach said .
With 13 percent growth in new jobs in the industry forecast by the Labor Department, welding students are not only building things, they are also building their own bright futures.
