Fourth graders from A. W. Becker Elementary toured the State Capitol Building, with one group stumbling across a change visit with the governor, on Tuesday, June 13.
Students split into groups to tour through the historic Capitol Building, which was completed in 1899. The seat of government for the state of New York, it is the home of both the senate and assembly. It also is the home office for the state governor.
As groups observed the elaborate halls and chambers of the Capitol, one group enjoyed a surprise visit from Gov. Kathy Hochul. She took a moment to speak to students, answered questions, and shook each of their hands before leaving.
Students also went to the observation deck atop the Corning Tower to enjoy the view before eating lunch outside on Empire State Plaza.
