Two Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School seniors will continue their education in a highly selective, new program instituted by Hudson Valley Community College this fall.
Holly Macera and Tyler Lischak were each selected to attend HVCC Honors College once they graduate from RCS in June.
Highlights of the program include full tuition scholarships for four semesters, membership to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, service learning opportunities, internships and research experience, access to prestigious college scholarships, and exceptional transfer opportunities to four-year institutions.
According to the college website, Honors College students demonstrate intellectual curiosity, ambition, integrity and global citizenship. They will take specially designated honors courses and have the opportunity to engage in research, internships and service projects.
Once their four semesters are completed, HVCC said students will be prepared to seamlessly transfer to a four-year institution to further pursue their academic goals.
Applicants are required to complete an extensive application process, including an essay and a teacher recommendation. A rigorous interview process followed before they were both accepted into the program.
Macera intends on transferring to SUNY Albany after she completes her program at the honors college. She is interested in political science and journalism.
Lischak plans to pursue a four-year degree that will ultimately lead to a career as a high school history teacher.
