We would like all of RCS to participate in this survey about rebranding our district as we undertake an important and heartfelt change to our school’s branding. As you likely know, the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) has ordered that all school districts that have Indigenous names, mascots, or logos must commit to rebranding. Failure to adhere to the mandate would result in the loss of state aid, of which RCS receives approximately $21 million.
RCS is interested in discovering the name, mascot and logo that best reflects our community and our school spirit. An RCS rebranding committee has met and identified the first step in the process; gathering as many ideas as possible from our community. Some preliminary ideas from our community have included names such as Yellowjackets, Hornets, Raptors, Engineers, and Quarriers. But there is room for MUCH more input.
Now it’s your turn to share your ideas! Please complete the survey below by noon on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. The Rebranding Committee will be tasked with reviewing the survey results, organizing responses, and deciding how to narrow down the choices with further assistance from our public.
We will be seeking additional input throughout this process and hope to identify a final choice by the fall of 2023. Stay tuned for more information and future requests for your input.
