Candidate qualifications

The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Board of Education is seeking an educational leader with a proven record of success. The successful candidate will:

  • Be a STRONG COMMUNICATOR who is committed to transparency and building trust by being open and honest to set clear expectations, actively listen to feedback, and facilitate healthy relationships between staff, administration, the Board of Education and the community.

  • Have EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE in teaching and leadership roles, with demonstrated skill in leading positive instructional change to increase academic achievement, and possess a strong understanding of collective bargaining, legal mandates and good governance of educational institutions in an increasingly political environment.

  • Be STUDENT-CENTERED to advocate for all students and their diverse needs, including access to opportunities. The successful candidate must be someone who is committed to academic growth, setting high expectations to push students beyond current competencies while also ensuring consistency across school buildings and promoting fairness in policies and practices.

  • Be APPROACHABLE, with a visible and active presence in schools, classrooms and the community, engaging with staff, students and families and demonstrating a commitment to the community. The successful candidate must be relatable, personable, respectful and consistent in their interactions with people.


  • Possess EMPATHY, making informed decisions with consideration for others, and responding to a variety of socioeconomic and social-emotional challenges with composure, fairness and humility. 

  • Be a PROBLEM-SOLVER who is willing to take risks, make adjustments and changes where necessary, while continuing to value stability. The successful candidate will possess a passion for progress and is motivated to improve the educational experience and outcomes for all students.

  • Be a LEADER with a proven track record of developing strong teams to serve as the unifier of various stakeholder groups.

About the position

The Board of Education will offer a three-year contract with a regionally competitive salary, commensurate with the preparation, qualifications, experience, and record of the successful candidate, as well as an attractive benefits package. 

Salary range: $180,000 - $200,000
