Dear RCS Families,
With the severe weather that hit our area this winter, the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk district has exhausted the number of allotted emergency days built into the 2016-17 School District Calendar. The district is mandated to be “in session” for 180 school days each year to assure that students receive the highest level of instruction; this means students and staff will be in attendance on Friday, May 26 for a regular school day. This date is marked as a “Contingent Day” on the district calendar.
I realize that these changes may impact family’s and staff’s vacation plans, but please understand that all public schools are bound by the Commissioner of Education to be “in session” for 180 days, regardless of circumstances.
In the event of another school closure in the near future, we have little choice and very limited options to schedule an additional day of instruction with all staff and students in attendance.
If you have any questions or concerns about this announcement, please feel free to contact your child’s school.
